GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A local teacher has been arrested, accused of sexual battery on a child.

Adam Hurdle, 33, a math teacher at Gadsden County High School, was arrested Wednesday.

Gadsden County Sheriff’s Sergeant Anglie Hightower says a victim came forward to Tallahassee police on Tuesday to report a sexual battery incident that occurred in Gadsden County a year and a half ago.

The case was then referred to the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Hightower says GCSO investigators determined that Hurdle did not meet the victim through his job at the school.

Hurdle was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a child under age 12. He is being held in the Gadsden County Jail on $150,000 bond.

The Gadsden County High School website also says Hurdle is a Florida A&M University graduate.

Gadsden County School Superintendent Roger Milton says Hurdle has been placed on leave without pay from the district, and further action will be taken depending on the outcome of those charges.

We're told this was Hurdle's second year with the district.
