GILCHRIST CO., Fla. (WCTV) -- Schools in Gilchrist County are closed Friday after the district received a threatening email.

According to a post on Gilchrist County School District's Facebook page, officials received an email threat around 8 p.m. Thursday. They said they were not immediately able to determine the legitimacy of the threat.

The district says it made the decision to close schools in light of the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida earlier this week. The district also cited an abundance of caution in order to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Gilchrist County School District says it is working with the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies to investigate the threat.
