Sen. Jack Latvala
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Republican state Sen. Jack Latvala is resigning the day after an investigation found credible evidence of sexual misconduct.
Latvala submitted his resignation Wednesday. He continues to deny doing anything wrong.
The resignation came hours after Republican Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi said he should resign. Latvala criticized calls for his resignation and said he no longer wants to serve with party leaders who didn't allow him a chance to defend himself.
Senate President Joe Negron said he made the right decision.
On Tuesday, a Senate investigation found it's likely Latvala inappropriately touched a top Senate aide. The report detailed accounts from a former lobbyist who said Latvala offered to support legislation in exchange for sex acts.
The Senate handed over the report to law enforcement.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Florida Governor Rick Scott is calling on Senator Jack Latvala to resign amid allegations of sexual misconduct.
Governor Scott's call to action comes after the completion of the Senate’s special master report regarding Senator Latvala.
The report, released on Tuesday, finds that the allegations that Latvala inappropriately touched a woman on several occasions are likely true. The report also includes several other witness accounts of sexual misconduct by Latvala, a Republican who is running for governor.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Governor Scott said, "Now that the special master report is complete and probable cause has been found, it is time for Senator Latvala to resign. Resigning is the best thing he can do now for his constituents, colleagues and the state."
