TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Havana police officer is off the force as he faces domestic battery charges.

Khang Bui was arrested July 25 by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

According to arrest records, Bui's wife told deputies that slapped her in the face during an argument.

Deputies say she suffered a red mark and swelling on her left cheek.

The Havana police chief told WCTV that Bui resigned the day of his arrest.

Bui had five years of service with the department.

In a statement issued Thursday, Bui's attorney described him as a "calm, soft-spoken man who loves his wife and children."

“Mr. Khang Bui will let the system work and looks forward to the day his family can put this behind them and clear his name," Attorney Don Pumphrey, Jr. stated.

Bui's attorneys say that his wife has requested to drop the charges and she made the request under oath.
