MONTICELLO, Fla. (WCTV) -- Jefferson County authorities are warning residents about a phone scam.

Jefferson County Sheriff David Hobbs says his office has received more than 50 reports in recent days of callers posing as representatives of the IRS.

The callers are reportedly telling residents that they owe back taxes, and claim that the residents will be arrested if they don't send money immediately.

Hobbs says residents should ignore the calls and not give money or personal information to anyone they don't know.
