Kearney donates $100,000 in support of Florida Competitive Workforce Act

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A local businessman has made a major donation to an organization fighting against discrimination of sexual orientation in the workplace.

Florida Competes announced Thursday that local entrepreneur and philanthropist Rick Kearney donated $100,000 to support the Florida Competitive Workforce Act.

Florida Competes says the a coalition of businesses is committed to passing the act, which aims to include protection of anti-discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

“This contribution reflects my longstanding commitment to LGBT equality and serves as an investment in improving Florida's reputation for equality and inclusion,” said Kearney. “I'm proud to stand with Florida's business leaders to advocate for equality for all, by adding these overdue protections to Florida's civil rights statute.”

The donation is the largest to date in support of Florida Competes.
