TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Leon County Jail correctional officer is recovering from facial fractures after he was attacked by an inmate.

The sheriff’s department says officer Kenneth Meade was injured around 10 a.m. Saturday.

According to the sheriff’s office, inmate David Vickers was upset with his lunch options when he attacked Meade. The officer suffered four facial fractures.

Another inmate helped to stop the attack by Vickers, who the sheriff’s office describes as a mentally ill inmate.

He is in the Leon County Jail on trespassing and disorderly conduct charges. Court records show Vickers was arrested in late May after workers at Bank of America on Lake Bradford Road said he was threatening to shoot customers and employees. He had previously been given a trespass warning for that location.

He’s now charged with aggravated battery on an officer.

Officer Meade is on medical leave, recovering at home.
