MALONE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A man has been arrested on charges of domestic battery in Malone, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

JCSO says on Wednesday, deputies received a call from the State Fire Marshal's office to send a deputy to his location. Officials say the SFM officer was on the scene of a residential house fire and relayed information to the arriving deputy that the officer suspected domestic violence had occurred at the residence prior to the fire.

Authorities say the deputy conducted an investigation into the allegations on scene, and observed injuries that would be consistent with physical battery on the victim.

JCSO arrested 38-year-old Steven Baxter and charged him with battery (domestic violence) and was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.

Officials say further charges are pending upon the completion of the State Fire Marshal's investigation.
