TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A man has been arrested, accused of hitting and spitting on a woman during a confrontation at a Tallahassee TJ Maxx store.
Rudolph Corbett, 33, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for battery.
Police say the incident happened on September 25 at the TJ Maxx on Thomasville Road.
According to arrest documents, a woman was shopping inside the store when she says she noticed an unknown man following her. The woman believed he was taking photos or videos of her on his cellphone.
The man then sat down on some furniture in the store and she walked past in an effort to see if he had been recording her. She says the man confronted her and asked if she had a problem. The woman said there was no problem and walked away.
A short time later, the woman noticed the man taking photos of her. She picked up a piece of merchandise and held it in front of her face and in the way of the man's phone. She says the man became upset and moved closer to her. The woman told police she threw the item at his chest in an effort to get away, when he suddenly hit her in the face with his hand. She suffered a small cut on her upper lip.
Store clerks intervened and directed the two to the front service desk. Arrest documents state that the man continued to be upset and began yelling and cursing at the store manager. Two customers in the store told the manager they had witnessed the suspect hitting the woman.
As the suspect left the store, witnesses say he stopped to spit on the woman. The suspect left the scene in a black Honda.
Surveillance video taken from the store and tips from the public helped investigators identify the suspect as Rudolph Corbett. A warrant was signed for his arrest in October.
Corbett was located on December 6 and taken into custody.
We reached out to management at TJ Maxx for comment on the incident. They did not wish to provide a statement.
Corbett is being held in the Leon County Detention Facility on $15,000 bond.
