QUINCY, Fla. (WCTV) – A judge has found a Gadsden County woman accused of stabbing her two young children incompetent to stand trial.
The July 11 order says 33-year-old Carolyn Brown suffers from a major mental illness, is incapable of caring for herself and poses a threat to herself or others.
The judge ordered Brown be turned over to the Department of Children and Families for treatment in a mental health facility. She will be held there involuntarily and the court will be updated on her treatment.
Investigators say on April 24, Brown stabbed her 8-month-old and year and a half-old sons.
One had been stabbed with a knife and the other was stabbed with a pair of scissors.
The children were found in a bedroom of their home. They were both rushed to the hospital in critical condition, and are now recovering.
Brown is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
