MOODY A.F.B., Ga. (WCTV) -- Starting this week, eligible individuals can bring privately-owned guns onto Moody Air Force Base.
However, they must stay in their personal vehicles.
Moody officials also say they must first meet qualifications and approval from their commander.
"Before, they would have to go shopping without them having it on them or they would have to leave the base, go home, arm up, and then go do their errands," says 23d Wing Commander, Thomas Kunkel. "This allows that convenience to them to be able to store in their vehicle while they go to work."
He says there will not be any extra security measures, but if stopped on base, owners must notify the officer.
The only people eligible are Active Duty or Active Reserve military individuals, Air National Guard or Department of Defense civilians, or dependents, 21 years and older that meet all of the following criteria.
All must have a legal weapons permit.
