HAVANA, Fla. (WCTV) -- A new traffic light has been installed in Gadsden County. It's at the intersection of Concord Road and Fairbanks Ferry Road near Havana.
The Gadsden County Commission held a ceremony Tuesday morning to activate the new signal.
County Commissioner Eric Hinson says signal was needed because of the high number of crashes over the past 30 years. He says there's never been a fatality at that intersection. He hopes the new traffic signal will better the chances of keeping it that way.
Commissioner Hinson, whose district it's in, says this was three years in the making.
Mitchell McGriff used to live about miles away from the intersection, and frequently drives the area. He says his cousin had a crash there just last week. McGriff says the traffic signal was greatly needed.
"Especially for those coming from Georgia that don't know the area. They just continue across. So, the traffic light is going to save a lot of lives," McGriff said.
The county commission approved the funding last year. It was budgeted for $112,000.
