TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Local pioneering educator Devurn Glenn passed away Thursday morning at his home in Tallahassee at the age of 94.

Dr. Glenn graduated from Old Lincoln High School and earned a bachelor of science in mathematics from FAMU in 1949.

Glenn taught high school for two years before entering the army. After his service, he was hired as the principal of Concord Junior High School by Amos Godby.

Glenn was instrumental in integrating the school district, and was the first African-American in the district to become an Assistant Superintendent.

The Leon County School Board named the main district office complex in his honor in July of 2008.

Funeral arrangements, which will be handled by Tillman Funeral Home, are still pending.
