TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- On Saturday, FAMU will be front and center for the whole country to see.
Their season opener against Texas Southern will be televised on ESPNU at noon, where the Rattlers will try to do something they haven't done since 2013 - win a season opener.
"We are excited about opening at home and to display what our team will look like initially for 2017," said head coach Alex Wood.
FAMU's opponent, Texas Southern, has a long history with the Rattlers, having played for the first time in 1958.
However, the history hasn't been recent, as Saturday will be the first matchup between the schools in 49 years.
"The excitement is everywhere with each opportunity and one that brings national attention," Wood continued. "After all, it's week zero in college football."
Despite a four-win season a year ago, this year's FAMU squad believes they can strike up their first winning season since 2011.
The Rattlers lead the all-time series against the Tigers, 9-2.
