TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The driver of a car involved in a fatal crash back in March has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide.

Mikanor Robert, 21, was booked into the Leon County Jail Wednesday.

Authorities say Robert was traveling north on Ocala Road near Continental Avenue when a vehicle pulled out in front of him. He swerved to avoid contact with the other car, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree in the grass median.

The impact of the crash caused the car to split in two halves.

Witnesses said that Robert was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed before the crash.

Investigators determined that Robert was travelling 77 miles per hour before colliding with the tree, and the vehicle's minimum speed at impact was 57 miles per hour. The posted speed limit on Ocala Road is 35 miles per hour.

Robert and a passenger in the front seat sustained minor injuries. Two passengers in the backseat were ejected from the vehicle.

20-year-old Guy Demosthene was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, but the latch failed and the belt came undone.

Robert is set to make his first appearance in court Thursday.
