TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- John G. Riley Elementary decided to get into character for Read Across America Day.

Dozens of students and parents came to the media center to chow down on green eggs and ham.

The staff says they decided to make it a family affair to encourage more parents to read with their children after school.

"We want to make sure that our parents are involved. That they push for reading at the home, reading beyond the classroom. So this event will help us push that agenda,” said Reading Coach Melinda Jones.

After breakfast, guests were entertained by the cheer squad. They also heard encouraging words from members of the FAMU football team and Big Brothers, Big Sisters.
