MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A school bus driver has been cited after crashing a bus full of children into a tree, the Florida Highway Patrol confirms.
The crash happened at 6:43 a.m. Thursday in Marion County.
According to FHP, a Marion County school bus was traveling southbound on Nashua Way, approaching a right curve.
Troopers say the bus driver failed to see the curve ahead and applied the brakes at the last second, causing the bus to skid. The bus skidded nearly 50 feet before travelling off the roadway and hitting a tree on the shoulder, where it came to a stop.
FHP says there were 29 children on the bus at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported.
The school bus driver was cited for careless driving.
