THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Thomas County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens about a door-to-door scam involving individuals posing as ADT home security employees.

TCSO says the "technicians" claim to work for ADT and tell the homeowners that they need to come inside and update their security system. Officials say the scammers even have a door-to-door permit from the city.

ADT says the scammers are then using the information obtained to fraudulently create new accounts or extend existing accounts without the customer’s knowledge.

Officials say they first began to receive calls about this scam on Friday, and intercepted one of the suspects on DeChene Drive. When asked for identification, the suspect was only able to provide a name tag.

A similar door-to-door scam was also reported last week in Perry.

If you believe you may have been a victim of this scam, first contact your ADT provider. If you observe potential scammers in your neighborhood, call local law enforcement immediately.
