VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Two teens have been arrested and charged in connection to a shooting that took place earlier this month on Shanna Circle in Valdosta.

Valdosta Police say the shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. on July 15, when the victim got into an argument with two suspects at a residence on Shanna Circle. The victim was shot once, chased down, and then shot a second time.

The victim was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

Detectives identified the suspects as 18-year-old Lawrence Franklin and 18-year-old Jahnard Brooks.

Both suspects have been booked into the Lowndes County Jail on charges of felony aggravated assault and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The victim has since been released from the hospital.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Shanna Circle is quiet Monday morning. A big difference from just days ago, when the neighborhood saw its second shooting within a few weeks.

In the incident report, investigators say the 911 caller refused to give their name. Now, witnesses are refusing to give any information that might help.

"It's nothing new because the people feel like they have no hope," says Pastor J.D. Martin with Citizens Against Violence.

Although some might say it's a lost cause, Martin sees opportunity for more community policing to bring back the peace.

"Some are either going to need to change or leave the community," says Martin.

Community members are looking to the future, asking what it will take to stop the recent hike in violent crimes.

Martin asks, "Does it take the whole neighborhood to get shot up? How much does it take?"

Valdosta officers are now bumping up patrol, but Martin believes crime won't stop until the community steps in.

"My philosophy is, there is one person in that community that wants to change and make a difference. That's the person we're going in and looking for," says Martin.

He's says they're kicking up their efforts to cut down crime in South Georgia. Citizens Against Violence says one of those ways is to drastically increase their quarterly motorcades.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Valdosta Police are investigating a shooting over the weekend that sent one person to the hospital.

At approximately 11:27 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to reports of someone being shot in the area of Shanna Circle.

Officers arrived on scene and located a gunshot victim in the 1700 block of E Moore Street.

The victim, suffering gunshot wounds to the torso, was taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to a larger hospital for further treatment. He was last listed in stable condition.

VPD says the victim and most of the witnesses contacted by police have not been cooperative with detectives investigating the incident.

"Citizen cooperation is essential when gathering accurate information during the investigation of violent crimes," said VPD Lieutenant Adam Bembry. "If anyone has knowledge or information regarding this incident, they are urged to contact the police department."

Officials say the investigation is active and ongoing.
