Suspect in Live Oak shooting arrested in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in the chest at the Busy Bee in Live Oak has been arrested in Columbia County.

30-year-old Leonard Otis Cooks, Jr. was taken into custody early Monday morning.

According to a Facebook post by the Suwannee County Sheriff's Office, Cooks was found around 2 a.m. hiding out at an apartment in Lake City.

Cooks is currently being held in the Columbia County Jail without bond.

According to SCSO, Cooks kidnapped the victim from her home on January 2 and chased her through the Busy Bee parking lot when she tried to get away from him.

Cooks allegedly shot at the victim and struck her in the chest. Deputies say Cooks then fled the scene in a dark colored SUV.

There is no word on the victim's condition. Authorities say the woman had an active injunction against Cooks.

SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect who authorities say shot his ex-girlfriend in the chest Tuesday night at the Busy Bee in Live Oak.

Deputies say they are looking for 29-year-old Leonard Otis Cooks, Jr.

According to SCSO, Cooks kidnapped the female victim from her residence and chased her through the Busy Bee parking lot when she attempted to escape.

SCSO says while chasing the victim, Cooks shot at her and struck her in the chest. Cooks fled the scene in a dark colored SUV.

The victim remains in critical condition. Authorities say the woman had an active injunction against Cooks.

If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Cooks, please do not approach him, he is considered armed and dangerous. Please call 911 or 386-362-2222. Callers may remain anonymous.

Cooks has active warrants for attempted murder, kidnapping, felon in possession of a firearm, and violation of injunction.

LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at the Busy Bee in Live Oak.

According to SCSO, the shooting stemmed from a dispute between a estranged couple. Authorities say the woman had an active injunction against her ex-boyfriend.

Deputies say once the pair got to the Busy Bee, the man began to chase the woman and shot her twice in the chest. The woman was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in critical condition.

Authorities did not release the identities of those involved and could not provide more information at this time.
