Suspect charged with vehicle theft, firing shots at police

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — A suspect has been arrested in connection to a vehicle theft and shooting on Holton Street earlier this month.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of suspect Antwan Dennard, 35, on June 7th.

According to police, just before 9 p.m. on June 3rd, Dennard stole a Mercedes Benz from the Circle K gas station on West Pensacola Street as the owner was inside the store.

When police later spotted the vehicle on Holton Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the suspect sped away and fired 5 to 7 gunshots at a police officer.

The stolen vehicle was later located by FAMU Police on Barbourville Drive. The vehicle was processed for fingerprints and DNA evidence.

Surveillance video taken from the scene helped authorities identify the suspect as Antwan Dennard.

Dennard was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, fleeing and eluding, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Dennard was booked into the Leon County Jail on Tuesday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV)—The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a stolen vehicle, that led to shots fired at an officer.

TPD received a call around 9 p.m. Saturday night about a stolen vehicle from the Circle K on West Pensacola Street. The car is identified as a white Mercedes C300. The owner of the car was inside the store at the time the vehicle was taken.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching that description about an hour later on the 2500 block of Holton Street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, shooting several shots at the officer. No one was injured.

The car was eventually located, abandoned on the 200 block of Barbourville Drive. Police are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call TPD at -850-891-4200.
