VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Uber, the transportation and ridesharing service, will soon be available in Valdosta and the surrounding area.

Valdosta joins the list of more than 450 cities the franchise has become a part of.

Those interested in becoming part of the Uber driving team are encouraged to sign up by February 28.

Uber says at least 40 drivers will be needed for the transportation service to continue in the Valdosta area.

"Uber will create jobs, assist citizens with transportation to employment, and also future discussion of a potentially unique partnership to meet public transportation needs," says Valdosta Mayor John Gayle.
