VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- A South Georgia community said "thank you" to its men and women in blue on Tuesday.
The Valdosta Police Department took part in Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.
Mayor John Gayle presented a proclamation to the police chief, saying it's important to show gratitude to those who help keep the community safe.
"We normally deal with a lot of negative out there," said Darrell Lester with VPD. "But, when you get a chance for someone to say thank you, it really does lift your day.
"To see a young child come up to you, instead of running away from you. To come up and say 'Thank you for being there and making it safe,'" he continued.
Another way the city said thank you was by having its youngest citizens cover the police department doors with notes and drawings of appreciation.
