TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Florida State safety Derwin James has announced on social media that he has declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.
James added in the post that he will not be playing in FSU's upcoming bowl game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
The Independence Bowl kicks off at 1:30 p.m. on December 27 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
James, a junior at the university, is projected to be a first-round pick in the draft. He played three seasons for the Noles and totaled 186 tackles in his career.
This season, James was second on the team in total tackles and led the squad in solo tackles, and had two interceptions, including a pick six against Delaware State.
The draft is scheduled to begin April 26, 2018 and run through April 28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
