TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Pitt baseball program announced former Florida State associated head coach Mike Bell has taken the head coaching position with the Panthers.

Bell had been with Florida State since 2012 as the associate head coach and pitching coach, and had been apart of the 2012 and 2017 College World Series teams.

A former player with the Noles, the FSU pitching staff led the country with 635 strikeouts this season.

FSU logged five 500-strikeout seasons under Bell's leadership of the pitching staff, and he has seven in his career. Known as a strong recruiter, Bell has 11 Top 25 recruiting classes under his belt, and was named the 13th-best recruiter by D1Baseball.com.

Bell becomes the fifth head coach in Pitt baseball history. The Panthers went 29-26, with an 11-19 ACC record. It was their first winning season since going 42-17 in 2013.
