Tallahassee Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams are nationally ranked – the men sixth; the women, 11th by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Both teams, however, will be tested when they hit the road for weekend action.
The Eagle men, 12-0 on the season and ranked No. 1 in the latest Region 8 Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll, will travel to Ocala, Fla., for a pair of games in the annual Florida College’s Men’s Basketball Shootout. There, Tallahassee will put its unblemished record on the line against one team currently ranked in the national poll and another who began the season in the Top 25.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, Tallahassee will face NJCAA No. 14 Palm Beach State College (11-0) in a battle of unbeatens. The Panthers are averaging 96.0 points per game during their perfect start to the season, including November wins over then No. 12-Daytona State College and then-No. 3 Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College.
Daytona State (8-4) is the Eagles’ Sunday opponent. The teams are scheduled to tip at 4 p.m.
Both games will take place at the College of Central Florida.
Meanwhile, the Tallahassee women will travel to St. Petersburg College for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday.
The Eagles are 10-1 and ranked No. 3 in the Region 8 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll. Officially, the Titans are 4-6, but had to forfeit their first four games. Otherwise, their record would stand at 8-2.
Following weekend action, the Eagle men will host Red Devils Basketball Academy at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
