Tallahassee Community College’s women’s basketball team opened the Capital Courtyard Classic with a 107-53 win over NJCAA (DIII) No. 8 West Georgia Technical College on Thursday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season while West Georgia Tech dropped to 0-4.

Less than 48 hours after suffering its first loss of the season, Tallahassee responded in a big way.

After West Georgia Tech scored the first basket of the game, Jas Hill answered with consecutive three-pointers to start a 9-0 run. The lead reached double-digits at the 5:23 mark on a basket by Rosanna Jenije, and the Eagles eventually led 31-13 after the first quarter.

Tallahassee all but put the game away in the second, outscoring the Golden Knights 29-12 in the second quarter to take a 60-25 lead to the locker room.

The Eagles put up another big quarter offensively in the third, adding 28 points and led 88-42 heading to the fourth.

West Georgia Tech, a final four team in the 2016 NJCAA DIII Tournament, fought until the final horn and limited the Eagles to just 19 fourth-quarter points.

Hill led five players in double-figures for Tallahassee with 25 points. Japonica James scored 15 and pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double.

Shaigna Wentz hit 6-of-7 shots from the floor and finished with 14 points.

Janessa Murphy scored 12 and Lawriell Wilson, 11.

Tallahassee will continue play in the Classic at 3 p.m. Friday against Georgia Highlands College.
