Tallahassee To Host Big Time Jamboree

The newly formed Jonathan Ferrell Kickoff Classic event will be a multiple-day preseason high school football event that will feature three Big-Bend area teams in a gridiron matchup against three prominent in-state varsity opponents.

In a joint venture with the Jonathan A.P. Ferrell foundation, 4Quartersonline.com will produce the event that will stage Suwannee vs. Gadsden County in the opening game on August 18th, followed by a double-header on August 19th that will see Godby take on Nature Coast Tech (Brooksville, FL) followed by Rickards vs. Northwestern (Miami, FL).

The Jonathan Ferrell Foundation was formed in honor of the former Florida A&M University alum and student-athlete, who was slain by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police after seeking assistance after a car accident. Ferrell was unarmed. His brother Willie and mother Georgia have now taken up the cause unifying community relations and finding peace through the foundations efforts. “Justice to us now becomes helping others avoid the tragedy that we’ve lived through. We are focused on bringing change to those who need it most. We are using some of the money from the settlement to fund the Jonathan A.P. Ferrell Foundation, which is designed to help the community and law enforcement break down barriers and better understand each another,” said Jonathan’s younger brother Willie. “We’re hopeful that the foundation will facilitate essential conversations between law enforcement and the citizenry they are charged to protect and serve. We look forward to partnering with law enforcement agencies around the country to start these conversations.”

While this year’s inaugural games hope to honor Jonathan’s memory while promoting the foundations message of increasing community partnerships with the local law enforcement, expectations are to showcase top talent and feature the state’s best football programs on the field.

Excitement for the preseason games has already begun between this year contestants and future plans to expand the event are already being discussed. “It’s our goal to make this one of the biggest signature events of the football season,” said Johnny Cofield, publisher of 4Quartersonline. “It’s going to be something that everyone is going to look forward to being apart of.”
