Valdosta State announces 2017 football schedule

VALDOSTA, Ga. - Heading into his second season at the helm, Head Coach Kerwin Bell and the Valdosta State football team are pleased to announce the 2017 regular season schedule.

The Blazers will open up their upcoming campaign with their fourth consecutive season opener against the Albany State Golden Rams on September 2nd. The matchup will take place in Albany, Ga. and is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m.

Fort Valley State and Valdosta State will meet for the second annual Okefenokee Classic at Memorial Stadium in Waycross, Ga. on September 9th, before the Blazers return home to face North Alabama on Sept. 16th for the team's home opener at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium. A trek to Pensacola, Fla. will ensue on September 23rd, as Bell's squad travels to West Florida for their first ever road matchup against Argonauts during their second football season at UWF.

Following a week off on September 30th, Valdosta State will turn the page to a highly anticipated showdown with David Dean and the West Georgia Wolves on October 7th, before a return to Valdosta on October 14th, when the Blazers welcome the Mississippi Choctaws to town.

Valdosta State's final stretch will begin in Cleveland, Miss. against the Delta State Statesmen, followed by two additional home matchups starting with Florida Tech on October 28th, and finishing with VSU's homecoming game against the West Alabama Tigers on November 4th.

The Blazers will close out regular season play on November 11th in Rome, Ga., where the team will face the Shorter Hawks in their final conference skirmish of the season.

In addition, Blazer football is set to begin their spring schedule next Tuesday, beginning on March 21st. Spring practice will carry on throughout the first week of April, leading up to the annual spring game, which will take place on April 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Bazemore Hyder Stadium.
