TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- One of the most important people in Willie Taggart’s life said she is thrilled to have her son back in their home state.
Gloria James, Taggart’s mother, traveled from Palmetto with her family to see her son take the stage at Florida State as the official head coach of the Seminole football team.
FSU rolled out the welcome mat in true Seminole fashion with the Marching Chiefs and cheerleaders in front of the Unconquered Statue.
Coach Taggart was escorted onto campus with a police escort, and he tomahawk chopped his way out of the car. President John Thrasher greeted him, along with a flood of FSU fans and students.
Taggart's mom said the family made the trip to Tallahassee to experience the special moment.
"To tell you the truth, I had the feeling already, and then seeing all the publicity and stuff," James said. "I said 'We're fixing to have a Florida man again. Don’t make me start dancing, I feel great!'"
James said she's already bought Seminole gear and is ready for the new season to start, but she feels like she's always been a Seminole at heart.
She said it’s about time her son made his way back down to Florida.
