LCSO Warns Citizens About Recent Text Alert Scams
In recent days numerous, Lowndes County citizens have received text messages purporting to be various banking institutions.

Lowndes County, Georgia - January 12, 2012 -

In recent days, numerous Lowndes County citizens have received text messages purporting to be various banking institutions. These e-mails instruct the recipient to contact the alleged bank and update their account which has been cancelled according to the message. These text messages are fraud and appear to be a scheme to obtain customers banking information. The messages have been changed to indicate various banks throughout the South Georgia area.
Person’s who receive these messages, or any message of this type, should never relay any of their personal or banking information over the telephone to a person who they do not personally know. Customers should contact their respective bank regarding any changes to their account.

The Sheriff’ Office is actively investigating these messages and attempting to identify the source and person or person who may be involved. Citizens who have questions can contact the Sheriff’s Office at {229} 671-2950 for additional assistance.

I received a phone call about suspicious activity on my account. I told the person I would hang up and then call my bank's security office myself. This way, I knew I was talking to the correct people. The security personel understood exactly and stated that I did due diligence to safeguard myself and my account. My bank let me know they would only place a phone call and would never text or email concerning concerning a anyones account. Folks need to use their brains and think logically.

I have received an email from "BANK OF AMERICA" that stated that my bank account has been blocked due to suspicious activity. Well of course since I have had my account for over 10 years i know that if they send an email of that nature, they provide the contact number and states. well these email said to please click in the link and verify your account. This was not the first email that I have received from "BOA". it's actually not from my Bank, after tracing the IP address it was created overseas, and ofcourse it was a scam. So people do not fall for stuff like these. IF there are any questions, always contact your local bank. DO NOT UPDATE ANY INFORMATION COMING FROM AN EMAIL. IF there are clients of Bank of America reading this. YOU can always contact them and they will tell you to FW. the email to their IT department( where they actually FW to LAW ENFORCEMENT. I AM not affiliated with the bank in any other way than as a client. But it could happend to anyone.
