Over the past three years, Leon Volleyball has emerged as a power house in the state of Florida with three straight trips to the FHSAA state final four. The senior class of Marcella Desloge, Alex Johnson, Caldwell Nystrom, Molly Pearce, Callie Watkins and Taylor Vaughn have created a dynasty.
Leon Senior Defensive Specialist Caldwell Nystrom adds,
"I think that the younger girls have learned from us and know that friendship is what it is and that you need friendship instead of talent."
Leon Senor Setter Molly Pearce adds,
"I think that will help a lot that we've been there before and we know what it's like and this year we'll just know what to expect more and be more prepared."
These six girls helped lead Leon to their first state volleyball final in the school's 103 year history, but perhaps it was something in the making before they stepped onto the court as a Lion."
Leon Senior Middle Hitter Taylor Vaughn adds,
"We've been playing together since we were twelve and we've accomplished a lot of our goals together like qualifying for nationals two years."
Leon Senior Outside Hitter Alex Johnson adds,
"It just pushes you more to play better because you have your best friends there and it makes it that much more exciting and we all push each other."
Leon Senior Outside Hitter Callie Watkins adds,
"We've all been working for the same goals, going one hundred percent for our whole lives and this year is our last year."
Leon Senior Middle Hitter Marcella Desloga adds,
"We all know what to expect on the court from each other and we all know what each other is going to do and there's no question to who's going to put forth the most effort."
As their final year together as a Lion winds down, these six girls will try to complete the journey on top by coming home with Leon's first Volleyball State Championship.
