With the pop of the mitt and the crack of the bat means that baseball is in the air. While the pro's are finishing up their season, the Valdosta State Blazers are preparing for their upcoming year.
VSU Head Baseball Coach Greg Guilliams says,
"The biggest thing is we just want out guys to learn our system and then the other part of it is with the new guys on the team is we're trying to find out what they're capable of doing and how they're going to fit in and try to figure out what's going to be our best lineup for the spring."
The Blazers are coming off their best season in three years with 43 wins while finishing second in the Gulf South Conference East Division, but it's a long way from opening day and the team is just trying to get ready for that first game.
Greg Guilliams adds,
It all depends on your philosophy with the fall. For us we're trying to take a look at everybody and with inner squad games and a few exhibition games we have, we're trying to play everybody because the games in the fall don't count but at the same time we want to play well."
Well enough for the Blazers to try and capture their first World Series title in over thirty years.
