People all around the world are are still feeling the effects of the earthquake that devastated the Haitian landscape. As countries and organizations poured in relief and supplies, the Florida State Athletic programs paired up with the American Red Cross did what they could to help.
FSU Women's Head Basketball Coach Sue Semrau says,
"I know it's been important to Leonard, myself, to all athletes to use athletics as a platform to bring people together to help others. I think this is a great opportunity. Obviously the disaster is beyond our comprehension. We all wonder how we can help but this is just a small way that we can come together and give."
FSU Men's Head Basketball Coach Leonard Hamilton adds,
"That's what we're all about, helping people who are in need. That's the spirit of Florida State and I'm glad that to see the students stepping up."
The Men's and Women's basketball teams raised donations at their home stand this past weekend. Both teams have a tie in to life over seas. Three members were not born in the states and this past August, both teams traveled out of the country.
Sue Semrau adds,
"I know our players feel the same way, they have a huge heart and I know our athletic department wants to do anything they can to help."
"Unconquered" has been the motto surrounding Florida State Athletics for the past few seasons, and while the donations raised may not help everyone affected by the tragedy, it's what the Seminoles can do to spread it's unconquered spirit.
