Before FSU and FAMU begin their on field spring drills, Valdosta State already concluded with their spring game.
VSU Senior Quarterback Russ Callaway says,
"We did three weeks instead of four weeks this year and I kind of liked it and we kind of got after it a little more each day and everyone was more focused this year and heck I thought we improved in a lot of areas. On defense, they started out strong and on offense, they started off kind of sluggish which is normal and we picked it up."
VSU Senior Linebacker Larry Dean adds,
"Now we can just evaluate guys and see what we're lacking and what not and have time to lift and just get ready."
The Blazers started spring practice earlier than previous years to focus more on strength conditioning after spring break, which was no complaint as VSU was eager to get back to action after failing to advance to the playoffs in 2009.
VSU Head Football Coach David Dean adds,
"Our kids, I think, are hungry to prove that they're one of the best teams in the country, they're hungry to get back out and start the 2010 season. From what I saw today it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm excited about getting started in August."
Russ Callaway adds,
"We've had a sour taste in our mouths ever since we missed it last year and really, in a way, if you're not going to make the playoffs it's good to get back out."
For VSU, the pads will be on the shelves until early August when preseason camps begin for the 2010 season.
