Heading into FAMU's Orange and Green game all eyes were on who will replace Curtis Pulley at quarterback. A red shirt senior in Eddie Battle or Martin Ukpai, who saw significant playing tome in 2009. Through the first three weeks of spring it seems as though the position is still open. Neither had a touchdown pass and the only two offensive scores came from the ground.
FAMU Senior Quarterback Eddie Battle says,
"The offense feeds off the quarterback. If the quarterback comes in the huddle drowsy and slacking then that's how your offense is going to play. They're going to play slow and very relaxed. I think my second half was more energetic."
FAMU Sophomore Quarterback Martin Ukpai adds,
"I felt like I could have done better but overall I didn't feel like I did too bad. There's still room for improvement.
The defense forced four interceptions, three by the green team, which impressed head coach Joe Taylor.
FAMU Head Football Coach Joe Taylor adds,
"We put a challenge to the defense coming into the spring and they have really stepped it up. It was good to see Shutt get a pick and return it. I thought we played well. In fact, if I had to assess the segments, I thought we played better defensively than any other segment."
Six practices remain in the spring for FAMU. The first three will be spent reviewing and tweaking plays from the spring game, the next three will be to prepare for the season opener against Miami on September 2nd.
