This postseason, VSU has won five elimination games and will now travel to play in it's first ever Division Two National Tournament.
VSU head softball coach Thomas Macera says,
"It just shows you the resilience of this team. We have a bunch of kids that are beat up and hurt and you know it's hot, we had to play out of the losers bracket. We had to beat a pitcher last night that pretty much shut us down and our pitchers had to come back after getting beat up last night. We're blessed, we're definitely blessed."
Valdosta State won the south region with two wins against Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday to secure it's trip to St. Joseph, Missouri and an experience that these players won't soon forget.
VSU sophomore shortstop Marti Littlefield adds,
"In high school I made it to state and this is so much more than that. This is so much more. It's just a great feeling and I'm glad we could do it for coach, I'm glad we could do it for our whole team and we worked hard for it."
VSU junior pitcher Margaret Carter adds,
"Every athlete dreams about being able to win a national championship. It's just awesome just that I can share such an experience with such wonderful girls. I love this team to death and I'm just so excited for the future."
VSU advances to the eight team national tournament. Play for the Lady Blazers begins the 27th. First up is Bloomsburg who won the Atlantic region.
