Seminole tennis training begins long before future phonemes reach the college level. The FSU tennis coaching staff every summer puts young stars through training similar to that on the college level.
FSU men's tennis head coach Dwyane Hultquist says,
"A lot of match play, a lot of competitive drilling and then we do some technical work with them and try to get them to hold the rackets correctly and improve their strokes."
For five weeks, the coaching staff runs high performance camps to help the above average tennis players.
FSU men's tennis associate head coach Nick Crowell adds,
"It's fun working with the advanced kids. They come out and they're really eager to learn, they're like sponges and they really want to get better. Anything we can give them in the week we try to give them."
With many different backgrounds and styles that the campers have, the coaching staff calls upon some of Florida State's own to lend a helping hand.
Former FSU tennis player Lauren McCreless adds,
"Everybody comes in with different strengths and weaknesses and things like that. We work on that individually but at the end of the day it's all about a team and we're a program here. We're Seminole tennis and that's what we try to get across to the kids. Even the kids that are from out of town and I think they embrace that really well."
Whether the level of play is on the junior circuit or the college level, these coaches are set out to have their players reach their highest potential.
