Eye on Business: King Arthur's Tools

Every business has its own flair, some keep it straight to the point while others take their business to an entirely new, sometimes bizarre level.

Arthur and Pamela Aveling are dreamers, role players, executives, and some would say, a little goofy. The two own King Arthur's Tools in Tallahassee, one of the best kept secrets in the business world and a play where you literally need to know your role to fit in.

"I started in the garage and slowly expanded to make it a little kingdom in Tallahassee where everyone has fun, but is a little weird," said President/CEO Arthur Aveling.

King Arthur's doesn't make tools, but Arthur develops products and forms strategic alliances with other companies to make their tools better. And what started out as a garage business is now a global company that specializes in wood making and a place to showcase everything that uses their tools.

"Our goal in life is to promote wood working and to promote artisans and wood turners and just make wood a part of what people have in their homes," said Executive Vice President Pamela Aveling.

"We are the world's largest distributor for two of the products that we've brought on that we use in conjunction with ours."

They've done that with the Guinevere Gallery, an on site showroom displaying the wood workings of artists around the country. But what really sets them apart from most is what's on the walls. A walk into King Arthur's Tools is truly a walk into Medieval Times. All the products are named after Medieval characters and even the conference room boasts a wooden round table where people actually enjoy each others company and promote good deeds.

"The theme of Camelot and that makes it easy to have fun. We believe in investing in people and we believe in having fun. We work hard and play hard."

KAT are some fine folks with some fine tools. Couldn't ask for better people than them and their Gallery is full of beautiful creations from artisans in the area. Two thumbs up for King Arthur Tools! :D
