Tallahassee, FL (AP) - A bill that would revise the state's new ban on designer drugs commonly known as "bath salts" has cleared the Florida House.

Rep. Clay Ingram, a Pensacola Republican who is sponsoring the bill (HB 1175), said drug chemists changed the compound to get around a law enacted last year.

Ingram said the new version was on the streets about a month later. His bill also bans the new formula. It passed unanimously on Wednesday and goes to the Senate, where a similar measure (SB 1502) has cleared two committees but has two more to go.

Law enforcement officers say the drug also known as K2 or Spice has been sold at malls, head shops, and other retail outlets.

It causes hallucinations, seizures, aggression, increased blood pressure and kidney failure.

When are legislators going to realize that chemists (and even drug users) are smarter than they are?? Ban one thing, another will come out. Spend the time and money on drug education and healthcare.

This has elements of legitimacy; however after the house "make it against the law for legislators & staff to testify as to why we rigged re-redistricting bill" and the house "please re-elect me because I wasted lots of money making State Workers pee in a cup bill" it's just kinda hard to take The Honorable Florida House of Representatives seriously!!! Makes you wanna look for some "disgusting-self-serving-angle" in this "Bath Salts bill" and also in whatever the house cooks up next & next & next. Thank God we got the common sense in the Florida Senate to reign these nimrods in!!!

No wonder legitimitely ill people can't even get an FDA approved pain medications for things like arthritis, Kidney stones, female related chronic pain, pain relievers that do more than just reduce swelling and inflamation and also for people who's GI tracts can't handle NSAIDS. I had to go to an E.R. every 2 weeks just to get pain meds for kidney stones because I had no health insurance and couldn't pay a surgeon. Something is WRONG!
