Taylor County made a big showing Tuesday for a woman walking for a cause. Hundreds of people banded together to join Lauren Book in her journey.
"We closed down like the whole town, it was so exciting," Book said.
Book was abused as a child by her female nanny.
For five years.
She decided to open up about it and shine a light on an issue affecting so many.
"From that experience I decided we needed to turn a negative into a positive and that it was important for us to make a difference out there for other survivors," she adds.
Dorothy Triestram and her daughters were at the event.
They were living in St. Louis before moving to Taylor county for a fresh start.
All of her daughters were abused.
"I was devastated, I was devastated," Triestram said.
According to national statistics, one in three girls and one in five boys will be sexually abused. Based on those stats, Taylor County would have over 300 victims of child sexual abuse.
"I think it needs to be out there for other children to know that it's not their fault," Triestram said.
Book added:
"Perry and Taylor County wants people to know that predators won't be tolerated here and their children and families can stay safe."

While I agree with Helping Children, I agree with helping all Children Abused in other ways also. There are so many Children bein killed by Parents, etc. Beaten, Hungry, etc. These Children are never mentioned. Everyone seems to want to be for the Sexual Abuse victims, Before you comndem me, I was abused as a Child. I Believe there are many hurting Children today. Not just sexual abuse. Why can't we help them??? I forgave and got on with my life. I refuse to let the past control my Future. Less than a very small percentage of the Sexual offenses are by the worst Sex Offenders. How many are never caught, there are many. How many Parents harm their Children Daily. It may be verbal, hitting, Hunger, embrassment, etc. Can Lauren please help those Children????
while I am sure this brings about awareness, I would like to see them bring convicted child molesters out of prisons in shackles and force them to walk through Florida as well. Not only will this bring awareness, at may also help with deterrence. I know this will never happen.
Um, this is the third year. Time to take action.
