Thomasville, GA -- February 20, 2012 --
12 year old Jordon Brinkley used to have bad sinus pain and congestion.
"Immediately after I woke up, I could tell the difference in my nose, and I was able to breathe more easily. It was not congested at all," said Brinkley about his recent balloon sinuplasty.
Thanks to a new procedure at the allergy center in Thomasville, his sinus issues are history.
"It can be done in the office, so now you don't have to worry about general anesthesia or side effects from that. It literally can be done right here in the office with open sinuses and relief from your sinus complaints," said Dr. John Gilbert.
Dr. Gilbert has been practicing this surgery at the Ear, Nose, Throat, and Allergy center in Thomasville.
Here's how it works. A camera goes in through the nose with a light, then when in the proper position, a balloon is inflated to dilate the sinuses which can then be washed out.
Pain, if any, is minimal during the surgery, and so is recovery time. Without facial swelling or bruising, many patients can resume normal activity in a day.
The surgery has helped Archbold Medical and the E.N.T. and allergy center to be distinguished as a Sinus Center of Excellence.

Sure, try your finger. But seriously, for most patients the procedure is permanent (approx. 98%) and revisions are very rare. This coupled with the minimal bleeding and short recovery time make this an option before the "roto-rooter" treatment.a
How long does a treatment last? Will the sinus passage close down again in time, requiring it to be done again?
Can I do the same thing with my finger?
