"I just couldn't believe that. He just left the house. He just left the house," Franklin Brown told Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg. Arthur was Franklin's older brother.
Franklin says he just can't believe his older brother is gone. Arthur was killed just before 7p.m. Wednesday night. Police say 62-year-old Arthur Brown was hit and killed by an on-coming car.
It was near the 1200 block of South Patterson. Valdosta Police say there wasn't much the driver could do to avoid the man.
Brown was crossing the street, but according to police witnesses recall the man was "staggering". A sample of Brown's blood is being sent for testing for alcohol.
Franklin Brown says Arthur struggled with alcohol, but that he was a caring man. Arthur was his inspiration to go to college.
"He always told me, you know, get your education. So that's basically what I did," Arthur told Gullberg.
Police say one car had to swerve to avoid him, but it was too late for the black Honda Civic behind them. The driver of the Honda, 44-year-old Nora Eakin, is said to have been visibly shaken and was sent to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
The accident is still under investigation, but police tell us no one is being charged at this time.
