VCS and Wiregrass Team Up for Parenting Classes
Valdosta City Schools and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College are teaming up to offer new parenting classes, “Helping Parents Help Their Children,” free of charge.

Valdosta, Ga. – Valdosta City Schools and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College are teaming up to offer new parenting classes, “Helping Parents Help Their Children,” free of charge. Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend any of classes throughout the next two months to learn new skills that will benefit the development of their child’s mind.

Oh Baby! is the first parenting class offered by the program. During this session parents will learn how to prepare themselves for life with a new member in his or her family. The course provides extensive strategies, tools, and insight on how to take care of a newborn. Oh Baby! will be offered at Hudson Docket-Community Center on Friday, February 17, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Ora Lee West-Community Center.

Positive Discipline is the next class provided to parents. In this class, parents learn how to create a caring atmosphere in their home. This includes learning how to cope with parenting problems in a positive way. Also, tips will be provided on how to effectively discipline your child. Positive Discipline will be held on Tuesday, February 21, from 1-2:30 p.m., at Hudson Docket-Community Center, and the following Friday, February 24, from 9-10:30 a.m., at the Ora Lee West-Community Center.

The third class available to parents is 1, 2, 3 Read With Me! This course provides parents with tools and ideas that will help them to expose their children to reading at an early age. Here, parents are encouraged to read with their children daily to foster an early connection with their child to the importance of an education. 1, 2, 3 Read With Me! begins Tuesday, February 28, from 1-2:30 p.m., at Hudson Docket-Community Center., and the following Friday, March 2, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Ora Lee West-Community Center.

Study Time Headaches No More! is the last class offered. Parents seeking advice on how to help their children develop good study habits will find this course very helpful. Tips for making learning fun and interesting are discussed and parents can learn what methods will truly stimulate their child’s mind. Study Time Headaches No More! will begin Tuesday, March 6, from 1-2:30 p.m., and the following Friday, March 9, from 9-10:30 a.m., at Ora Lee West-Community Center.
