- Valdosta, Ga. - Feb. 17, 2012 -
It's a day to celebrate trees at Valdosta State University.
VSU and the Valdosta Tree Commission hosted the annual Arbor Day Ceremony. City Manager Larry Hanson was just one of the men tossing some dirt on a Live Oak Tree.
Valdosta is one of three Georgia cities to keep the designation of "Tree City USA" for more than 20 years.
"It celebrates trees in our environment and the benefits that they give us. Many people kind of over look that and take trees for granted," Brett Ganas, VSU's Asst. Director of Landscape & Grounds tells Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg.
This brings VSU one step closer to its designation as Georgia's sixth "Tree Campus U-S-A" University.
