Leon County, FL - Folks in Leon County can also get a break on dental care for children and adults.
The county is offering a new Dental Discount Card. It allows folks to get a discount of 5 to 50% on cleanings, crowns and other services at participating dentists offices.
Commissioner Jane Sauls pushed for the plan, saying some families cannot afford dental care or dental insurance and wind up in the dentist chair only in emergencies.
"We hope people will take advantage of this. It's a wonderful opportunity to get some coverage for your family, especially preventive, If we can start with preventive medicine and treatment, then it's much less expensive on the families," Sauls said.
There is no cost to Leon County to participate in the plan which is run by the National Association of Counties and administered by Careington International.
A county spokesman says there are no income or age restrictions. Individual plans start at 59 dollars a year and family plans start at 69 dollars a year.
To find out more about the discount card, log on to Leon County's web site or pick up an application at any Leon County Public Library.
