Florida Politicians Talk Health Care

Tallahassee, Fla. 6-27-13

Local Florida legislatures discuss health care issues at an area hospital.

State representatives Alan Williams, (D) Tallahassee, and Halsey Beshears, (R) Monitcello, as well as State Senator Bill Montford (D) Tallahassee, spoke to about 50 people at Capital Regional Medical Center. They touched on a number of topics including the Affordable Care Act.

One of the things each speaker touched on was how the state should handle expanding Medicare.

"There's problems with the system," said Beshears. "There's problems with delivery of Medicaid and as a legislative body, nobody wants to deny help to the people that need help."

"It's up to the legislature to ensure that we fully expand Medicaid," said Williams.

All three politicians say they're hoping to learn from the past legislative session and pass some type of Medicaid bill in 2014.
