August 20, 2012 - Selling or possessing bath salts and other synthetic drugs is already illegal in Florida and is now illegal in New York. This month, New York's Governor announced the state is expanding its list of banned substances. State officials say this change is coming after a dangerous rise in New York users over the past year. Upstate New York hospitals report five times as many emergency room visits this year compared to last year, because of bath salts. Federal law bans the manufacture or sale of many of these drugs, but now New York state officials can go after suspects.

Also, a new study finds changing the type of video games and television shows your child watches can lead to a better night's sleep. Seattle researchers found that when 3 to 5 year old children were given educational and age appropriate shows they were more likely to get a good night's rest. Previous studies have linked video game and TV violence to poor sleep in older children and teens. The study published in the Journal Pediatrics found that when parents intervened in their kids media diet, reducing exposure to violent and age-inappropriate content and replacing it with age appropriate, educational and empathy-building content such as "Curious George", "Sesame Street" and "Dora the Explorer", the children had fewer sleep problems, less aggression, and increased empathetic and friendly behaviors.
