August 28, 2012 - Georgia may have links to a new rash of cantaloupe contaminations.The Food and Drug Administration says two deaths and multiple cases of illness have occurred across 20 states, including Georgia. Health officials are advising consumers to discard all cantaloupes from southwestern Indiana. The FDA reports a total of 141 people have been infected. The outbreak first began back in July.
Also, a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience finds musical training in childhood makes for better listeners later in life. Researchers at Northwestern University found adults who had one to five years of musical training as children had enhanced brain responses to complex sounds. That's compared to peers with no musical background. Experts say they are more likely to pick up conversations in loud environments, and thus more adept at discerning social cues.
