August 30, 2012 - A new study in the Lancet finds the benefits of cholesterol-lowering drugs called statins outweighs the increased risk of diabetes. Researchers found patients on statins were 28 percent more likely to develop diabetes if they had at least one risk factor for the disease.The new analysis shows that the bulk of the extra diabetes cases occurred in certain statin users: those already on the verge of getting the disease because of being obese or having an elevated blood sugar levels or resistance to the hormone insulin. The research also found patients were still much less likely to develop

Also, a new report in USA Today says Boston Market is getting rid of salt shakers on tables inside the restaurant. The chain, as well as other fast-food joints, has come under fire for high sodium content. Boston Market says it plans to cut the salt in some menu items in the next six months. Other restaurants have jumped on the low-sodium bandwagon, too recently. However, Boston Market says the pepper shakers are staying and salt will still be available at the beverage stations.
